Comparison with professional short films Evaluate and analyse your short film in relation to the professionally produced set short films In my short film, I didn’t heavily use aspects from the professional short films that were given to me because I wanted to try something different. However, I did use some aspects from certain short films because when I watched them, they did give me some ideas to form my final idea for my short film ‘Procrastination’. Firstly, In the short film Slap, there were certain scenes where there was no diegetic sounds, just non diegetic sounds to create this atmosphere and tone of disturbance and anger, especially the last scene when he wouldn’t stop beating up his opponent . This showed how difficult it was for him trying to be a transgender in a difficult world as he was struggling to get acceptance from his peers when they found out. I used this idea in my short film but the tone and atmosphere that I created through having scenes where you could only hea...

meanings and messages ; if he was British, a lot more people would have cared performance ; there wasn't much in terms of speech and facial expressions because there wasn't many close ups or speech but it did seem very realistic editing : very slow editing, very long shots  mise en scene : normal London setting, cars, police tape cinematography - long shots of police etc. sound - lots of silence narrative - flashbacks as timeline was going back in time from when the incident unfolded then was revealed what happened. this might influence me as I liked the slow paced editing and how it sort of built the tension. And how there was also little speech, this added to the mystery.

representation - the struggles of homosexuality and being transgender Microelements : cinematography - handheld camera when in room with him, makes us feel like we are in there with him editing - shot/reverse shot when they are in the bedroom talking to each other performance - the way contrast from when he is doing the boxing and with his gf to doing makeup and dressing up really shows how well he hides being transgender.  mise en scene - the neighbourhood is a bit dodgy and run down making him more scared to come out because he won't be accepted and will be beaten up like his gay friend. sound - in the final scene where he boxes the lad and doesn't stop, quite disturbing non diegetic music plays but there is no diegetic sound which puts us in the position of him because it is like he can't hear anything because he is releasing his rage into tho guy. meanings and messages - how difficult it is to be trans or homosexual this might influence me in the way where in some scene...

Representation - struggling family because of absent father so single mother trying her best but in one scene you can see they are at each others throats. Narrative - 3 act structure - 1st act is her on the streets pulling her stunt, 2nd is she then gets found out and she goes on a break and thinks about what she is doing, 3rd act is we think she will stop but she does it again. Micro elements cinematography  - close up of her face, showing the emotion that she is feeling when she pretends that her dad is in hospital mise en scene - council house estate, backing up that they are struggling as a family mentally, money etc. editing - very slow editing, one long take from a single camera for a while until cit cuts to the next bit, helps us get on edge in the moment. performance - She is very good at pretending that she is freaking out because the first time she does it we genuinely believe it sound - All diegetic sounds, no non diegetic which helps us feel like we are there with...

analysing short films - tight jeans

Representation - talks about race like how black men have bigger dicks than white men, how white girls are into black men to have a mixed baby as a free ticket into the black community etc. narrative - not much narrative as it is just kids talking and having fun Micro elements  cinematography - close ups of their clothing and shoes to show part of their culture is that they are always wearing nice shoes no matter what clothing they're wearing. editing - time lapse at the start to show what life is like in the setting of where the film is taken place. sound - London grime tune playing at the start to set the mood of the culture and where they live. Mise en scene - run down London area, showing how they are living. performance - body language and facial expressions showing how close all 3 of them are meanings and messages - no matter where you live, you always have friends and can have fun

Analysing short films - Operator

Representation - women doing the phone calls because the men are doing the front line work Narrative - 3 act structure - her getting the call, second act is her trying to help with the tension rising, act 3 is it is resolved and the callers are safe. Micro elements Mise en scene - All in the same setting with the women sitting in the chair Cinematography - Lots of Close ups to show the emotion and stress in the womens face Performance - very panicky as you can tell from her voice, movement. editing - Even though the scene gets more intense, its still quite slow paced to show how calm the operator is  sound - distant gloomy non diegetic sound to make the scene more intense Messages - that operators are very well trained and that is what they have to deal with everyday I think I might use the same setting technique because it is very effective in gripping the audience in.
