Analysing short films - echo

 Representation - struggling family because of absent father so single mother trying her best but in one scene you can see they are at each others throats.


Narrative - 3 act structure - 1st act is her on the streets pulling her stunt, 2nd is she then gets found out and she goes on a break and thinks about what she is doing, 3rd act is we think she will stop but she does it again.


Micro elements

cinematography  - close up of her face, showing the emotion that she is feeling when she pretends that her dad is in hospital

mise en scene - council house estate, backing up that they are struggling as a family mentally, money etc.

editing - very slow editing, one long take from a single camera for a while until cit cuts to the next bit, helps us get on edge in the moment.

performance - She is very good at pretending that she is freaking out because the first time she does it we genuinely believe it

sound - All diegetic sounds, no non diegetic which helps us feel like we are there with her


meanings and messages - the fact that she is pretending that her dad is in hospital could mean many things, that she is missing her dad and is reenacting what happened the day of his death, could be a scam etc
