Analysing short films - Operator

 Representation - women doing the phone calls because the men are doing the front line work


Narrative - 3 act structure - her getting the call, second act is her trying to help with the tension rising, act 3 is it is resolved and the callers are safe.


Micro elements

Mise en scene - All in the same setting with the women sitting in the chair

Cinematography - Lots of Close ups to show the emotion and stress in the womens face

Performance - very panicky as you can tell from her voice, movement.

editing - Even though the scene gets more intense, its still quite slow paced to show how calm the operator is 

sound - distant gloomy non diegetic sound to make the scene more intense


Messages - that operators are very well trained and that is what they have to deal with everyday


I think I might use the same setting technique because it is very effective in gripping the audience in.
