analysing short films - Arrival

 micro elements 

sound - use of voice over

cinematography - constant zoom into her face 

editing - all taken in one long, slow shot

performance - the look in her face shows how worried she is even though she isn't speaking.

mise en scene - coffee to distract us from the real problem


representation - the struggle of becoming pregnant when not ready, what mothers go through


messages - be careful with pregnancy


narrative - there is not much narrative as it is just one long shot of a women with a VoiceOver talking about her being pregnant and her being scared about it so there's no 3 act structure, no equilibrium etc.


I don't think I will use anything from this film because it isn't what I'm trying to go for

representation - the struggles of homosexuality and being transgender Microelements : cinematography - handheld camera when in room with him, makes us feel like we are in there with him editing - shot/reverse shot when they are in the bedroom talking to each other performance - the way contrast from when he is doing the boxing and with his gf to doing makeup and dressing up really shows how well he hides being transgender.  mise en scene - the neighbourhood is a bit dodgy and run down making him more scared to come out because he won't be accepted and will be beaten up like his gay friend. sound - in the final scene where he boxes the lad and doesn't stop, quite disturbing non diegetic music plays but there is no diegetic sound which puts us in the position of him because it is like he can't hear anything because he is releasing his rage into tho guy. meanings and messages - how difficult it is to be trans or homosexual this might influence me in the way where in some scene...
